Microsoft Word: Menu bar is no longer displayed

Microsoft Word is one of the most popular programs in the world. But what to do when the simplest functions are no longer accessible? In our article, we will show you how to restore the Microsoft Word ribbon or menu bar with just a few clicks.

The Microsoft Word menu bar

The menu bar contains numerous tabs and functions. You can even determine these completely freely. Via Word you have the possibility to specify in detail which functions you want to see in your main menu. This works quite comfortably via the „View Settings“ of your system. Here you can define areas that should be displayed in your editing bar. But what to do if the menu ribbon is hidden by an unfavorable key combination? We show you how to reset the menu bar in Microsoft Office with just a few clicks.

Ribbon is gone: Show Word menu bar again

If you want to show the Word menu bar again, you can do so with just a few clicks. The ribbon can be expanded and reduced within a short time – you just need to know where to find this setting. And we admit: This option is relatively hidden in Word and not visible at first glance.

The solution: Word menu bar has disappeared – show it again

The solution: this is how it works:

  • First open Microsoft Word, ideally directly with a free document.
  • Now navigate to the „Display options“ of your menu bar. A small arrow signals the way
  • Now click on the menu bar
  • At this point you can show or hide the menu.

But it is also faster: Click with the right mouse button on a free space of your ribbon. If the menu band is not visible, please click with the right mouse button on a free, gray area. Now select the option „Reduce menu band“. This option can either be activated or deactivated by a check mark. If you have activated this option, no navigation band will be displayed.

Menu ribbon hidden: The cause

We have just presented you the solution hints to show the menu ribbon again. However, if you are on the trail of the cause, you should check your key combinations. An unfortunate or inconvenient key combination can cause certain content to be shown or hidden. Fortunately, you can react directly by right-clicking and show the corresponding edit bar again.

Word menu bar has disappeared – no shortcode

Unfortunately, there is no shortcode for this problem yet. So you always have to go the normal, long way to show the menu bar in Microsoft Word again. Unfortunately, there is also no way to save the settings at this point. If you accidentally hide the menu bar once, you will always have to go the previously described way to show the menu bar again in your word processor.

Our conclusion

It is no problem at all to show the menu bar again via Word. Whether caused by an unfavorable key combination or with full intention: however you proceeded to hide the menu bar: with full fervor you will succeed in showing the corresponding tabs again.
